Rooted & Reaching

Rooted & Reaching

In moments
Of calm breath and diamond sky,
the city asleep far below,
my mind untethers
my vision soars
And I see us.
I see us.
A singular being, infinite branches
rooted and reaching,
fear shed like snakeskin
in the afternoon sun.
We are
Artists and dancers
singers and dreamers,
healers and teachers.
We are all colors and no color
aged and ageless,
aflame with a dream
of one world
where every soul welcomes,
is welcomed.
Where every soul dreams,
is dreamed of.
Where every soul creates,
Is created,
Is creator.
In moments of calm breath and diamond sky
I see us.
Our infinite branches reaching beyond form,
Becoming formless
touching love,
becoming love.
And the sleeping city below
Sighs
Smiles
Heals.

Thank you, my beautiful friend, for so easily putting into words what I can only convey with images.

Behind the Scenes - Rooted & Reaching

So….sometimes creating these images are not always done in the safest manner, I must admit. And since Captain Awesome is always Captain Safety (he wears two hats) I figured it was best to call in a friend to keep the whole operation from being shut down.

So in comes Julie. Her backyard contained a large open patio space with lots of stone…minimal things to catch fire in this one particular spot which seemed fitting. We also pulled over the water hose, turned it on and soaked the area around the pot for preemptive measures. Then after repeated attempts to light this silly twig, that had dried out all winter, on fire, we whipped out the lighter fluid. Voila. Twig aflame.

What we didn’t notice until afterwards, and caused Awesome much distress and head shaking, was how the lighter fluid bottle spouted a nice little orange crown after frequent dousings.

Okay, not my finest moment. The things we do in the name of art.

The clouds were photographed on a flight leaving California with a layover in Utah before heading home. I always try to take my camera with me on flights as I never know what the sky will bring and what new formations will develop outside my window seat. Mother nature rarely disappoints.
